  • MASTERPIECE STUDIOS

    Masterpiece Dedication 021

Well,  we are finally realizing a 5 year dream to ignite a movement that unleashes the artist in our younger generation through the arts.  Masterpeice Studios is located at 14015-H E. Independence Blvd., Indian Trail NC 28079 (across from the Crystall Shoppe) and will be open for classes beginning Sept. 4th.  Our second open house will be Sat, Aug. 25th from 10am -2 pm.  Please send your friends and family to check us out at www.masterpiecestudios.org

The pic above is Jackie sharing the vision to a group of friends and supporters last Sunday night.  We will also be offering art classes and plan to offer graphic arts, hip hop, spinning, and shag in the near future.

  • Check Out Our New Church

We are so excited about our new church!  It is literally new, it's only 14 months old and running about 2000 in attendance at two different locations.  The pastor, Steven Furtick, has a fire and a boldness reminiscent of the old revivalist preachers but with a very relevant flare.  Elevation Church has no programs and its ministry includes only three areas: worship, kids church, and small groups.  Jackie and I are greeters and we are enjoying the pleasure of being a part of a movement of God. We launched Elevation Union at Porter Ridge High School on Easter Sunday and had a whopping 501 people in attendance with over 50 accepting Christ as savior!  Listen to the worship at Elevation by clicking here

  • Broken Promises Repel God's Blessings

Ever felt like God wasn't near? Prayers go unanswered and you struggle to survive day to day. David, the King of Israel had this experience, in fact the whole nation was suffering from three years of famine.  David finally got on his knees and asked God what the problem was.  Isn't it ironic that God answered him? We often pray to God but not expecting Him to answer don't we? It would give us a heart attack if God decided to answer audibly wouldn't it?  I have prayed many times for my children to be healed when sick and God always answered. There were a couple of times I felt that God did not answer right away or even for days. That makes you reflect on your life and wonder if there are any unconfessed sins. My broker told me that out of dozens of homes he has sold for others there were only a couple that did not sell. In his opinion the owners were not at peace with God and their homes did not sell.  You see, when we have troubled God we bring trouble on ourselves and those we love.  God cannot bless us in our sin.

Maybe this is a good time to reflect upon your situation and ask God to reveal any unconfessed sins. I admit that I don't do this as often as I should.  If we confess before God daily and make amends with our loved ones daily we will not find ourselves in the situation that Israel was in. In the New Testament it is written that if we go to worship God and have committed an offense againsta brother that we should immediately get right with our brother. We cannot even enter genuine worship until we have right relationship with others.

The Israelites had sworn protection to the Gibeonites but King Saul disregarded the promise and in the words of the NIV version he tried to annihilate them. So, God brought famine against Israel. Does God really need to replace our ribeyes with pintos to get our attention?  Yes, I think he does. God will rock our world so that we repent and continue our mission in this world.  How would Israel be a light to the nations if it were known for breaking its promises?  God told David that his trouble was due to Saul's killing of the Gibeonites. David went immediately to the Gibeonites and asked what could he do to make things right.  Notice how he words it, "How shall I make amends so that you will bless the Lord's inheritance?" Wow! This is serious business.

The Gibeonites admitted that they have no right asking for silver or gold or the death of anyone but since you asked we would like for seven of Saul's sons to be put to death.  So David handed them over to them and they killed them.  Man! Is this right? If you read through the laws of that time you see that justice was paid a life for a life. Why seven, I'm not sure. I know seven is symbolic of wholeness or completeness.  At the end of the passage it says, "after that God answered prayer in behalf of the land." Someone had to die to appease God's wrath and release His blessings upon the nation Israel.  In the same sense we must die daily before God realizing that He is God and we are not.  Isn't that how we come to salvation in Jesus Christ? We die to ourselves, meaning we understand that we do not have the resources to make it in this world and we need a supernatural indwelling of God to be great people.  I want to be humble enough to ask God daily for His mercy and grace so my family can experience the great blessings of God.

  • Building a House for God or a Heart for God?

I'm always looking for things I can do to bring glory to God and that's a good thing, but the problem is the only resource I have is myself unless I invoke the presence of the living God into my life daily.  If my only resource is myself then I can never bring glory to God.  You see, it's not about what I can do but what my God can do through me.  The prophet Isaiah quoted God on the issue.

This is what the Lord says:

       “Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
Could you build me a temple as good as that?
Could you build me such a resting place?
      My hands have made both heaven and earth;
they and everything in them are mine.[a]
          I, the Lord, have spoken!

“I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts,
          who tremble at my word.

If our focus is on what we can do for God then we are way out of line.  There is nothing more I can add to the kingdom of God. He alone can accomplish His mission on earth. I'm guessing that I'm not the only one struggling with this issue. Until we get our focus on who we are and not what we can accomplish then we will never experience true intimacy with God. King Solomon built the greatest temple that ever existed and he said that it was not big enough to contain God. God is not looking for a house built by human hands but he is looking for a heart that is longing to be filled by his presence.  The person who possesses this heart is poor, has a contrite spirit, and trembles at the word of God.

Recently I heard someone say we should operate out of our brokenness and not out of our giftedness.  Our gifts may fail us or even change us but brokenness will always place us at the center of God's throne.  Wow! That's definitely not worldly wisdom.  It's ironic that the Lord led me to this scripture today as I was pondering how I need to proceed in my walk with Christ.  He just informed me that He is not concerned about what I can do for Him but that I cultivate a heart that He can reside in everyday.  Now that's a real house for God.  Are you too busy building a house for God or are you building a heart for God?

    Mission Montana Update

This is an update for some and a new post for others advising of the latest updates for Mission Montana. For those that have just joined us, I (along with The Vine at Charlotte) am hosting a mission trip to Red Lodge, Montana, June 18-25th, 2007.  We are planning on providing dance camps, football camps, and a festival for Red Lodge Baptist Church as they pray to reach their city for Jesus Christ. I have been on mission with some of you and I ask you to pray about this trip as well. Bill Parisher, pastor of RLBC is a seminary buddy and dear friend who has extended an invitation for us to join him in reaching the west for Christ starting in Red Lodge.   In 2004, I took a team to Red Lodge from SonValley Church in Las Vegas and we had a blast.  Red Lodge is a resort town of about 3,000 people located just north of Yellowstone National Park.  This little town is diverse with retirees, artists, etc. moving in from everywhere.  There are surrounding towns with no evangelical church presence.  The need for mission work is great!

On November 19th I will be giving a Mission Montana presentation to the Singles class at Brookwood Church, 1606 W. Davis St, Burlington NC at 9:00am.  I am in the process of planning another presentation in the Elon College area in the near future.  My church, The Vine at Charlotte is the host church but at least three other churches may be involved as well.

In the spirit of Jabez let us ask the Father to extend our influence in this world.
